Art/Illustration Process Guide

Introduction
Whether it's for business or pleasure a great art/design piece can last a lifetime. This is why we consider illustration and digital art one of the most rewarding services we offer. Usually, the project revolves around a particular need like flyer design, apparel, cover art, packaging design, or other stationaries such as menus.

All of these may require different elements and needs such as print spec sheets, color separation, and layout guides, to name a few.  So, before we get to creating it's important to make sure we have our ducks in a row before we get to the work!
SCOPE OF WORK CRITERIA
Below are the criteria to confirm before a quote can be given.

• Deadline
• Communication Channels *print partners or other stakeholders involved
• Amount of Planning/Research Needed
• Concept Amount
• Revision Amount
• Print Specifications
• Dimension Specifications
• Delivery Formats
• Usage Factors *as opposed to a flat fee, these are alternative pay models such as art licensing or percentage of sales

These criteria affect factors such as budget and time to complete.

Now let's move on to the PHASES!
3 PHASES
1. Project Type & Prep - name your project type and provide print or dimension guidelines

2. Design - Creation phase

3. Delivery - File Transfer

These stages ensure that your project, from start to finish, is well-prepared, creatively executed, and thoughtfully delivered.
PHASE 01: Project type & Prep
Art/Illustration projects usually fall under one of two categories.

• A one-off design *for personal use
•  Art/designs for a business, brand, or organization

If you are in search of a design for your business or brand, it may be useful to visit our Brand Identity Design Service to explore options for hitting target brand strategy objectives with your products or visual representation of your services. This method helps you identify areas of opportunity in your industry to stand out in the marketplace.

But if you already know what you desire

Let's Have a Chat
Share some reference content/imagery to give us a ballpark of what you're looking to create and gather the necessary content/specifications that your art will need to adhere to. Below are some examples of what we're referring to.
Project Type Example 01
In this example, we were given a brief with the company logo, explanations of the product, and a beer wrap print template with guidelines and parameters to abide by. If you have parameters to adhere to it is necessary for you to send us this information before we begin a project
Project Type Example 02
In this example, we have a YouTube Thumbnail design. These require a certain approach for visibility when scaled down on smaller devices like your cell phone. Large text and eye-catching colors are necessary for these types of projects.
Project Type Example 03
In this example, the design needed to be solid white with a transparent background because the client desired only one color for screen printing.
Project Type Example 04
In this example, there were no parameters. We were given the go to create a fire-breathing gangster pooch apocalypse fantasy theme!
PHASE 02: Design Stage
Moving onto Design

Once we have our parameters we hit the pencil and get to work.

We will discuss in advance how many concepts you desire and the revision amount.

Concepts are the initial design idea. For example, let's say the client wanted 2 options to decide from for different uses in their mezcal brand. One version of the line art boar illustrations would be a portrait perspective, and the other would be a side profile perspective.
Revisions are when the client wants specific changes that are “off” or a measurable distance off of the agreed project brief/scope and or modifications that will exceed the predetermined deadline. This can be new design direction, color changes, modifications or additions to designs, and additional custom typography to name a few.

Small modifications that do not require complete renderings, or mistakes that we may have made DO NOT count as revisions. These are a rare occurrence.

Depending on your concept and revision amounts, we will submit our first renderings and then get in line with an alignment call.
Getting in-Line
We'll have an alignment call to confirm the direction
PHASE 03: Delivery Stage
RMC will submit mockups so we can catch the feel of real-life production.

• Digitize Prototype
• Mockup
• Submit for Approvals
Make sure that we're in line
